Redevelopment of S. Maria Street Moncalieri
The goal of the Building Infrastructure Management Service is to renovate and adapt the property being worked on to meet the needs of all types of users, and to comply with guidelines and regulations regarding hygiene, health, safety, fire prevention, the removal of architectural barriers, energy efficiency, and environmental protection, among others. This objective can be summarized as “improving the quality of living.”

The property, and the adjacent area, on which the project is planned, is located within a much larger area
characterized by the construction of public housing projects in the early 1960s.
The property and the area are owned by the Municipality of Moncalieri and are the result of the sale of
state-owned properties, together with some private owners who have redeemed the public
properties over time and, in some cases, have been affected by subsequent sales to third parties.
The area is presented as a building with direct access to public roads on the
west and east sides and to public green spaces or equipped green areas on the south and north sides.
From the perspective of distribution interventions, the only important aspect envisaged by the project is the creation of vertical connections for the elevators, with the related distribution balconies on each floor.
The objective and parameter for defining the new layout was the need to ensure that each individual property unit meets the criteria for accessibility by persons with mobility disabilities.
Since access from the three flights of communal stairs is such that, not only are the internal dimensions unsuitable, but also the installation of an elevator system that would allow access to the
property units from the stairwell, it was necessary to opt for entirely external systems.
